Introduction Accounting has been defined as the process of identifying, measuring and communicating economic information to permit informed judgements and decisions by users of the information. Metallurgical accounting as it relates to mineral processing plants substitutes metals, concentrates or residues in place of monetary information. It includes the collection of plant data, technical information, record keeping, report production and a more general scope of functions than most people consider it involves. The course sets out the minimum standards of accounting and procedures necessary to account for gold or metals from the time the ore is broken at the primary crusher until the time that we have the final product in the form of gold bars, concentrates and residues. Course Benefits The overall purpose of gold accounting is to provide management with knowledge that can be used to control mining and metallurgical operations. The decisions that are taken on the basis of the information that the accounting system provides should result in improved control and ultimately increased revenue provided the information is accurately based. The current accounting procedures are a result of an evolutionary process that has been going on for many years and will continue as process plants become more technically sophisticated.
